My Story

Once on a fall evening in Trondheim, Norway, the newlywed Rose writhed in pain as she wrestled between the urge to tell her devoted John that she was in labor, and her desire to catch that day’s episode of Falcon Crest! In agony, Rose must have subliminally passed her fascination on to the child in her womb, because this passion for stories would launch the child onto a journey to live up to her middle name, Awinpiini (God’s gift). Thus, began my story!

I was subsequently brought up in Ghana, South Africa, Canada, and the United States (where I began my whirlwind romance with the stage - and eventually, the screen.) Since then, I have received my Bachelor of Arts in Acting, worked professionally as an actor, spent three years teaching drama in Beijing, China, and am now completing my Master of Fine Arts in Acting at The Meadows School of the Arts (Southern Methodist University) in Dallas, Texas .

Whether I am on stage, on screen, behind the microphone, walking down the street, or taking an afternoon nap, my purpose remains: to protect the dignity of others so that, they may see their full humanity reflected and appreciated. Even with current waves of consciousness surrounding diversity and inclusivity, I still find, that discourses on Blackness are still slightly lopsided though many academics, entrepreneurs, and artists work towards balancing the scale. My dream is to continue to actively partake in that change, using my work as a channel through which Black and/or African people may insert themselves into the global narrative.

A dash of this and a splash of that. All the places that make me β€œme.”
